Damn, that's some tasty kraut

(Wednesday, July 02, 2008)

It was once cabbage. It stinks. It's German.

Of course it's sauerkraut and each year the exurb of Henderson, Minnesota (southwest of Minneapolis) celebrates the vile crap with their town festival named appropriately enough Sauerkraut Days. And I made it there on Sunday to witness the spectacle that is the sauerkraut eating contest. Two pounds of kraut, ten eager contestants (one of whom was a female) and plenty of preparation (beer).

Oh, hell, just watch the slideshow.

The winner took down the two pounds of kraut (he said without chewing it) in 60 seconds flat. See, it's disgusting, right?

My cute friend jeff and I were shopping once and they have this stuff in the St Louis grocery stores that you can make sauerkraut with called "KRRRISP KRRRAUT!!!"

I pointed it out He said it in this hilarious German accent and it makes me laugh every time I think of it.
That's the only experience I ever want to have with sauerkraut.

I could totally do this. My love of sauerkraut is well documented and knows no bounds.
