There is so much more than The Replacements, Prince, Husker Du, Soul Asylum and Morris Day and The Time to have come out of Minnesota. When you dig deeper you'll find the likes of the now-disbanded Lifter Puller, the Hold Steady which came from the ashes of the aforementoined act, The Hopefuls, The Gear Daddies, The Suburbs and countless others.

Of course, last weekend I highlighted a few of the more known acts breaking through which originate from the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Today, even more shows you can see this very weekend!!!

The Melismatics
These indie pop-rockers are currently busy touring in the upper midwest. Friday (May 18) brings the outfit to Mike's tavern in Kansas City, Missouri at 9 PM with a Saturday show at The Scallywag in St. Joseph, Missouri at 6:30 PM.

On June 2nd, The Melismatics return back to the Twin Cities for a 9 PM benefit show at Mayslack's in Minneapolis and follow that up with a 3:45 PM performance June 3rd at St. Paul's Grand Old Day celebration.

Be sure to check their latest EP, "Turn it On" which features the infectious "Waves of Sound".

The God Damn Doo Wop Band
Nothing says cool like an all-girl doo wop band making a splash in the hip-hop dominated world we know as 2007.

The melodic stylings of these ladies can be heard locally at The Turf Club in St. Paul Friday, May 18 at 8 PM and heading out across the country on tour beginning June 27th in Chicago.

Lookie here, it's something new again.

For the better part of the past two weeks I've been beating the drum in support of the favorite radio station of what is turning out to be quite alot of people here in Minnesota's Twin Cities, yes, Drive 105. These active music supporters who once had a united voice are now scattered in their listening habits but united more than ever in their love for the alternative music scene. All of that, my support of a cause and my new-found much deeper passion for music leads me to this.

Behold, five tunes that have somewhat of a common theme and are worthy of many more than just one listen...

The Top 5ive

R.E.M. - What's The Frequency Kenneth
Elvis Costello - Radio Radio
Tom Petty - The Last DJ
Reel Big Fish - Sellout
Social Distortion - Don't Take Me For Granted

There you have it. The week, for the most part, is a wrap. 'Round these parts it's supposed to be a fabulous weekend and that might very well take us down the road to a sculpture garden and attempt number two at my smoked shredded pork. Enjoy it, buy some music, support a good cause and enjoy whatever the soundtrack of your life may be!
