The band Everclear evokes plenty of memories. I personally find it hard to believe that it's been over a decade since their breakthough hit "Santa Monica" brought the Portland, Oregon-based band national attention. The first major release, "Sparkle and Fade", performed much as its title would suggest. The band quickly faded from the limelight as they prepared to release the disc which would make them known to the masses, "So Much For The Afterglow". After its 1997 release, the band toured relentlessly in support of the disc. It also earned the band their one and only Grammy nomination.

After that time the band released a handful of only mildly popular CDs and eventually disbanded in 2003. With everything old being new (and with lead singer Art Alexakis filing bankruptcy recently) Everclear was raised from the ashes and is back touring again in support of its latest CD "Welcome to the Drama Club". I have many memories related to a few great Everclear tunes and that is exactly what keep sme from being interested in a reformed band which, coincidentally, is performing in Minneapolis at The Fine Line Music Cafe on February 8.

Locally speaking, adult-leaning Cities 97's Brian Oake-hosted Freedom Rock show actually played the first single from Bloc Party's (my space) upcoming album "A Weekend in the City".

"I Still Remember" is more mellow but also more guitar-driven than tunes from their freshman release "Silent Alarm". Their first batch of tunes prominently featured the obvious English accents as well as a more in-your-face percussion presentation. Though, upon further listening, the two albums obviously from the same band with the very definitive Bloc Party style very evident on both discs.

If you are unsure if you have ever heard any tunes by 'Bloc Party', the band's "This Modern Love" was featured in the 2006 season finale of the CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother".

Bloc Party lands in the United States for tour dates beginning March 11 and you can pre-order the new disc through iTunes here.
