Cheney shows how to spin a cover-up

After United States Vice President Dick Cheney peppered his campaign contributor/hhunting buddy in the face with bird shot, was there an attempt at a cover-up?

Apparently so, says a recent report. The question, though, is why.

Was a cover-up attempted because Cheney didn't purchase the $7 stamp to legally hunt quail in Texas? Had Cheney been drinking before they ventured out on to the grounds of the dude ranch for some 'hunting'? Were Cheney's publicity folks worried about more bad press from the happenings surrounding this buffoon?

Maybe the answer to each of these questions is yes.

Speculation aside, why does it appear that there is such a cover-up being attempted here? It could be so easy to admit that you made a stupid mistake and can't even competently sport hunt much less be second-in-charge of one of the most powerful countries in the world. But, no, it was eighteen hours before even local mediaa heard a breath of the happenings. So much for all persons being held to an equal standard. Had it been me who had accidentally shota buddy in the face with buckshot, I'd likely be in jail right now or facing charges at the very least.
