O'Reilly spews crap on Letterman's show

As with most everything I do, I am a bit late in tackling the David Letterman/Bill O'Reilly squabble from earlier this week on 'The Late Show'.

Having watched the quick two-minute snippet, I don't see what all the hubbub is about. David Letterman asked Bill O'Reilly why in the hell we are in Iraq when the intelligence, and O'Reilly defends his point that numerous countries had incorrect intelligence, was blatantly incorrect.

Letterman and O'Reilly also tackle, earlier in the same interview, the entire 'Christmas' controversy. Letterman's humorous outlook on the debate that 'Merry Christmas' is enlightening and to the point. His point, too, that people will do what they want is also very valid. His stating that he hasn't seen any of this just goes on to prove that quite possibly the entire Christmas vs. holiday debate is overblown.

The real meat, though, is towards the end of the shorter snippet in which Letterman states that he feels about 60% of what O'Reilly says is crap. This may stem from earlier in the segment where O'Reilly states that bickering gets nothing done and reitterates the party line that the only option is 'to win'.

There are other options. The best is to realize when you are in over your head and cut your losses. I realize that in entering Iraq, we destroyed it and de-stabilized it. Our soldiers died and activists like Cindy Sheehan, who lost a son, face criticism from people like Bill O'Reilly who is blind as to why we are fighting this war.

While we need to supporrt our troops, we are unwise to blindly support any government. Our country wasn't born on blind support of any one government. In fact, doing just that will lead to the ultimate downfall of our nation.
