Conservative group against cleaner air

A local Op/Ed piece details one conservative group (who backs the ultra right-wing Powerline Blog) whose opinion about ethanol is that it decreases fuel efficiency and voids engine warranties while supporting the heavily subsidized corn-derived fuel.

The only problem is that the opinions presented are one-sided. The offset of the reported 3% lesser fuel economy fails to take into account that the blend used 10% less petroleum. (Using the state of Minnesota's 80/20 mix as Governor Pawlenty backed in a bill last year)

The timing of publication of this Op/Ed piece couldn't have been worse of the conservative group when the piece runs while the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air pollution warning for the dirtiest air the state has seen in at least 25 years.

Excellent timing to be bashing ethanol, indeed.
