Iraqi elections proceed amidst violence

I am aware that the elections in Iraq were held this weekend. It also should be a time for us Americans to remember 9/11 and recall the events (note the numerous gaps in time and poor decision making) that ultimately led us to the invasion of Iraq instead of Afghanistan (home to Osama bin Laden) and Saudi Arabia (where the terrorists hailed from). Although we continue to lose troops each and every day from insurgent strikes, the elections seem to have gone off fairly well.

There was, of course, violence during the voting but we can all now begin to hope that after the votes are counted that the U.S. military will turn over more power with each passing day to the Iraqis and thei newly elected government ending our occupation of this country and returning our sons, daughters, mothers, father and friends home safely.
