Leno OUT!

Announced earlier today, Conan O'Brien will be taking over the Tonight Show. The show, which has held the 11:35 PM (EST) time slot for many, many, many years will be hosted by Conan O'Brien. Of course, this change will take place in 2009 when Leno's new contract expires but it allows NBC to hold on to the sought-after Conan until they can give him what he ultimately wants - the gem of the late night slots, "The Tonight Show".

Speculation also leads us to believe that a change at CBS will also occur in the same time frame. Letterman's likely replacement is Jon Stewart who currently hosts "The Daily Show" on Viacom/CBS owned Comedy Central. The years leading up to 2009 will be interesting on the late-night front. Wild specualtion will run rampant for the next 4-5 years. Who will replace Conan? And in the immediate future, who will replace the slot left open on CBS by Kilborn's departure last month?
