Expos in montreal no longer

The announcement came yesterday. It was one most who follow baseball even half-heartedly had known for some time. The Montreal Expos are moving. They begin play in Washington DC next spring. The turnout for their final game in Montreal after 36 years was extraordinary. Over 36,000 turned out which was 4-5 times larger than their average crowd over the past few years as they became a lame-duck franchise.

This marks the first relocation of a major league franchise since 1971 when the Washington Senators relocated to Arlington, Texas and became the Texas Rangers.
