Austin (MN) businesses hit hard

The flooding in Austin (MN) are over but the cleanup is still underway. The hardest his was Jim's (Baldus)Super Valu in the once-named Eastside Shopping Center which lies on the north side of Oakland Ave. (Old US Hwy. 16). The water from the nearby convergence (SW of Supervalu) of Dobbins Creek (east of Supervalu) and the Cedar River (west of Supervalu) left the store with nearly $600,000 in damage.

Being locally owned, unlike the city's competing supermarkets of Hy-Vee and Cashwise Foods, makes the road even harder for Baldus. If you live in the area, help him out. He supports the community and you should support him. Help in cleaning up, restoration or patronizing the market when it reopens in the coming months.

Communities need more businesses like this one.
